College Deadlines: How To Apply For Your Dream School On Time

There are two time periods that I can think of throughout the course of one’s life where life itself can become extremely busy.

Those times are when you are a high school student doing your best to get into a great school and when you are a parent of a high school student guiding them towards a bright future in college. There are only a few minutes a day to breathe and then it is back to the full daily schedule.

Between studying for the SAT’s, writing application essays and maintaining a solid GPA, applying for college is an overwhelming process for a student in general. For Parents, it can be equally overwhelming as we fill out all the necessary paperwork, take our kids to all the college tours and show our support as much as possible.

On top of all of that, families have to be aware of exact dates on which they must submit their applications. And there are a lot of dates to keep up with.

So, I have compiled a list of the most important dates, here, to know for the 2019-2020 financial year. As a busy parent myself, I know that it can be easy to forget a date as you are running around taking care of your family.

However, when it comes to college deadlines, it is very important to submit applications as early as you can. Your college-bound student will have a better chance of receiving more grants, scholarships and federal work-study hours.

Here they are:

FAFSA: Academic Year: Fall of 2019-2020

Open Date: October 1st, 2018

Every year, it is important to fill out and submit your FAFSA as close to October 1st as possible as it will increase the amount of aid you receive from your school. Every year on June 30th the FAFSA is closed and no submissions can be made after that date for that academic year. However, do not worry if you have not submitted your FAFSA form.

The main priority of College Planning Experts is to offer our professional advice and work with each family’s specific financial needs. We want all of our clients to have the best chance of getting into their top choice school so feel free to call us for more information.

Another thing to keep in mind are the deadline dates for the specific college you are applying for. Those dates can vary from the federal date of June 30th. Staying on top of when the cutoff day is for your school and making sure you are ready with the proper paperwork is something that our professionals can guide you on.

Cal Grant: Academic Year 2019-2020

Deadline: March 2nd, 2019

The Cal Grant is money given to college students to pay for their degree that they do not have to pay back. Now, there are two submissions that need to be made before March 2nd, 2019 if you’d like to be considered for the Cal Grant. You need to submit the FAFSA and submit a GPA (Certified Grade Point Average) to the California Student Aid Commission.

It is a California Law that all accredited public and charter schools must upload electronically all the GPAs of their enrolled current seniors.

So, the two submissions you need to be aware of our getting in your FAFSA as soon as possible, making sure you know your top schools deadlines, as well as March 2nd, being the federal FAFSA submission deadline for the eligibility of the Cal Grant, and you need to submit your GPA to the California Student Aid Commission before March 2nd.
